We have very little access to our own brains, limiting our ability to co-evolve with silicon-based machines in powerful ways. As a species we are aggressive, competitive and lazy. As societies we will be less affected by this as we currently are, as we will not be doing the fighting and killing ourselves. It seemed we were back on a roll with AI development.
Yet, most experts, regardless of whether they are optimistic or not, expressed concerns about the long-term impact of these new tools on the essential elements of being human. Some applications may never be developed past a robotic machine that operates merely as a repetitive, assembly-line program tasked with making only basic adjustments to accommodate their environment.
In this pursuit of effort arbitrage, the smallest of intelligence advancements has the power to yield enormous gains for humans, individual and collective. But our rights and affordances as individuals will be determined by the SCS.
Because intelligence amplification builds upon existing human intelligence and all that it encompasses, it can be seen as more powerful than AI alone.
